THE MINING SHUTDOWN INIATIVE
About Alaskans Against the Mining Shutdown
Mining means a lot to Alaska's families — for many of us, it puts food on our tables and clothes on our children's backs. But two proposed statewide initiatives would, if passed, shut down existing mines and prohibit future mines from opening.
Alaskans Against the Mining Shutdown is a statewide coalition concerned about the negative effects of these two ballot initiatives.
By devastating this growing sector of the Alaskan economy, the proposed mining shutdown would rob our communities and the Alaska Native population of a significant source of jobs and revenue. The proposal would arbitrarily override the state and federal environmental and scientific review process.
