RED DOG AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Red Dog and TRI
At the Red Dog Mine, we move rock - about 8 million tons of natural materials each year. These rocks contain the metals we mine - zinc, lead and silver - along with others that are not mined, like chromium and manganese. We report the rock we move, including the metals we do not actually mine, to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which considers moving mineralized rock from one place to another a "release to the land." The EPA takes the information about the rocks we move each year and publishes an annual report called the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI).
